Material disclosure requirements are created to ensure compliance with local, national and international regulations and laws governing the use of chemical substances. Governing and regulating agencies have identified certain substances which can pose harm to humans and the environment if used at or above certain thresholds.
Material disclosures also help us identify substances in supplied or manufactured products before those substances become prohibited or banned (when laws or regulations are set to take effect on a future date). Therefore, Atmus requires its suppliers to comply with Filtration Engineering Standard (FES) 1801 (Prohibited and Restricted Substances). This standard requires the disclosure of all substances present in materials and components where the substance content is “at or above” the defined threshold value (weight percentages) in any homogeneous layer or feature of the material.
To ensure compliance with international and customer requirements that prohibit or restrict the use of specific substances in products manufactured and/or sold by Atmus Filtration Technologies, Atmus requires its suppliers to comply with the (FES) 1801. This standard requires the disclosure of all substances present in materials and components where the substance is present at or above the defined threshold value (weight percentages) in any homogeneous layer or feature of the material
NOTE: Access to the Atmus Engineering standard (FES) 1801 requires logging in to the secure side of the Atmus Supplier Portal. If you do not have an account on the Supplier Portal, contact the Supplier Help Desk.
All materials and items shall conform to the restrictions on the content of declarable list substances.
A declarable list substance is restricted and/or prohibited by one or more regulations that may be applied and/or region-specific. The supplier shall obtain written approval from Atmus for the authorized use of declarable substances prior to the source release of preproduction items and prior to the PPAP of new/revised items.
A full material disclosure (FMD) report is required by all suppliers at the time of a Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). If full material disclosure reports are not submitted with PPAP documentation, this will cause a delay in the PPAP approval process.
Materials Disclosure Guide
FMD can be submitted using International Material Data System (IMDS) and Compliance Data Exchange (CDX). Please refer presentation describing the materials compliance requirements of Atmus suppliers in the related links section.
IMDS:
- International Material Data System (IMDS) is used for parts that are used in on-highway applications for automotive customers.
- You can reach the IMDS registration page via the Login Button in the IMDS Homepage Click "Register your Company" in the Registration section.
- Supplier MUST use 6-digit SIM code while submitting MDS to Atmus IMDS ID 242886
- Cost: Free for suppliers to collect and report FMD data
CDX:
- CDX is used for parts that are used in Off-highway applications for non-automotive customers.
- You can reach the CDX registration page via the CDX Login Button in the CDX Homepage. Click Register your company in the Registration section.
- Supplier MUST use 6-digit SIM code while submitting MDS to Atmus CDX ID 36297
- Cost: Free for suppliers to report FMD data to Atmus. Supplier will need to pay licenses if they want to collect data from sub-tier suppliers
Furthermore, suppliers of liquid products may also be asked to provide Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Suppliers shall provide a MSDS that includes disclosure of the product's chemical and physical properties in a level of detail necessary to effectively protect our employees and the environment, as well as to support our efforts to comply with all applicable regulations and customer requirements
