At Atmus, sustainability is more than a goal. It is a commitment to protecting the resources that communities, businesses and future generations depend on. At our São Paulo, Brazil manufacturing facility, that commitment is taking shape through innovative approaches to water conservation and reuse that are delivering measurable environmental benefits.
The journey began with a focus on understanding how water was being used across operations. By leveraging sub-metering, water consumption analysis and employee-driven improvement ideas, the São Paulo team identified opportunities to reduce water usage within the facility restaurant. Engineering improvements, including pressure-reducing devices and targeted conservation measures, helped lower water consumption by approximately 50,800 liters during the first two months of operation.
Building on that success, the team expanded its efforts beyond conservation to water reuse. A rainwater harvesting system was installed to collect rainfall from the Coolant Line production building roof. The water is filtered, stored in a dedicated reservoir and redistributed for non-potable applications throughout the facility. Since implementation, the system has enabled the reuse of more than 392,000 liters of rainwater, reducing demand for potable water while maximizing the value of a naturally available resource.
The initiative demonstrates how practical engineering solutions and employee engagement can work together to create lasting impact. By combining innovation with continuous improvement, the São Paulo team has strengthened a culture of sustainability while helping protect one of our most valuable natural resources.
The impact extends beyond the facility. Recognizing the opportunity to share knowledge and support local communities, employees partnered with a nearby senior community center to help install a rainwater collection system. By applying lessons learned from their own project, the team helped make water conservation more accessible while strengthening community engagement around sustainability.
